Labyrinth of Fire by Keith Robinson
ISLAND OF FOG BOOK II

Hal Franklin and his friends have made it safely into Miss Simone's world. As shapeshifters, some of them are looking forward to meeting their alternate kind. Others dread the prospect.

Dewey, for instance, quickly feels the pressure of being a centaur. Miss Simone and the villagers make use of special "energy rocks" to power homes and advance technology. These glowing rocks come from deep within the ground and provide a clean, safe source of energy. Unfortunately, the superstitious centaurs believe that the mining of these rocks incurs the wrath of Mother Nature, such as earthquakes and volcanic activity. It falls upon Dewey to make an informed, objective decision about the matter.

Meanwhile, Lauren and Hal are quaking in their "smart" shoes. The village in the north is under constant attack from harpies and dragons, and these vicious creatures must somehow be reasoned with and persuaded not to plunder and, most importantly, to stop eating people! The trouble is, neither harpies nor dragons are interested in negotiating.

Hal and his friends join forces to deal with these serious issues. Together, with their individual talents, they can conquer any problem! They end up in the heart of dragon country, down in the Labyrinth of Fire beneath an oozing volcano. Somehow they must make the dragons see the error of their ways. Their quest forces them to question the extent of their shapeshifting abilities... and this leads to a shocking discovery that is likely to start a war.

"A superb follow-up to the excellent adventure novel Island of Fog. Keith Robinson continues to create a totally believable world, packed with action and clever plot twists, resulting in a first-rate read for children and adults alike. Crackling with action and cleverly written throughout. A great read." —Laura Canning, Author

"Great new book! I absolutely loved the sequel and thought that it might even have been better than Island of Fog! I loved getting to know Darcy, Emily, Lauren, and Dewey way better. I have grown to find those characters way more likable now that I know more about them. Thanks for giving me a great new read!" —Canaan

"Keith Robinson has a wonderful easy writing style that never slows you up. I was shocked how quickly I read the first book and am equally so with this one. Labyrinth of Fire is well written, exciting and absorbing. I am thoroughly confused as to who the kids can trust and am very anxious to read the third installment. It is great entertainment for both children and adults." —Michelle, Blogger

Images of America: Fort Oglethorpe

Fort Oglethorpe was created in 1902. During national emergencies, the post expanded temporarily into the park. Cavalry troops trained at the post until 1942, and the WAACs/WACs arrived in 1943. The post was considered an elite assignment, with polo matches and dances. Dwight Eisenhower and John Pershing were stationed here. Visiting dignitaries included Sgt. Alvin York, Bing Crosby, Lana Turner, and U.S. presidents Theodore and Franklin Roosevelt. Prisoners of war and enemy aliens were confined here during both world wars. In 1946, the army declared Fort Oglethorpe surplus, and the post was decommissioned. Community leaders realized the hospital, utilities, and streets represented the core of a town, and the city of Fort Oglethorpe was incorporated in 1949. It is now an economic center in northwest Georgia.

Gerry Depkin is a historian living in the old section of town. She has a master's degree in historic preservation and chairs the Fort Oglethorpe Preservation Commission. Julie Powell is a writer and a past president of the Post Community Association. Images were contributed by institutions and individuals throughout Fort Oglethorpe and neighboring communities.

The Images of America series celebrates the history of neighborhoods, towns, and cities across the country. Using archival photographs, each title presents the distinctive stories from the past that shape the character of the community today.
